The Index originated with 23 titles as a quarterly publication in 1949, and has continued on a quarterly basis superseded by annual cumulations; triennial cumulative issues were published from 1952 through 1967. From 1949 to 1962 the Index was issued as Air University Periodical Index. Staff members in the Reader Services Division and Indexing Systems Branch, Systems Division, of Air University Library index the periodicals with the exception of six titles which other Air Force, Army, and Navy libraries index. Air University Library Index to Military Periodicals serves primarily the educational and research programs of Air University. The Index is available to other libraries upon request. This publication has been reviewed and approved by competent personnel of the preparing command in accordance with current directives on doctrine, policy, essentiality, propriety, and quality.
